Mission
The specific purposes of the Corporation are to provide education and resources to knitters to increase their mastery of the craft of knitting. Our mission is to support serious knitters in their efforts to learn the history, perpetuate the traditional techniques, and keep the artisan aspect and high quality standards of the craft alive.

TKGA offers educational classes that are done remotely as correspondence courses via mail. There is a purchase price for classes which covers the S&H and a small teacher stipend.A cornerstone of TKGA is its Master Hand Knitting certification program, comprised of three levels.Knitters submit their knitting, writing, and technical knowledge to a panel of Master Hand Knitters for their review and comments. Upon successful completion of all three certification levels, the student becomes a Master Knitter.
TKGA produces a quarterly, electronic educational journal, Cast On, to members that contains educational articles, book reviews, yarn reviews, patterns with educational aspects, and technical articles. Access to Cast On is a privilege of the membership fee.There is a purchase price for MHK Certification that covers S&H. The MHK review committee are volunteers and receive no stipend.TKGA had 3,570 members in 2024.
