Scams: In 2024, The Knoble expanded its efforts to help financial institutions and partners address scams that target vulnerable individuals. We hosted six scam-focused roundtables, engaging 404 unique participants in discussions on red flags, technology, effective practices, and collaborative solutions. To equip practitioners with practical tools, we published a Romance Scams Red Flags Guide and an Offshore Scams Infographic, both designed to enhance detection and prevention efforts. We also hosted a fireside chat with a scam victim, providing a powerful customer perspective on the warning signs of scams and underscoring the importance of vigilance and early intervention.

Network Engagement: In 2024, The Knoble advanced several initiatives to strengthen collaboration across industries in the fight against human crime. We convened a working group of financial institutions and law enforcement to develop a SAR Addendum Template designed to improve the effectiveness of SAR filings. By ensuring that actionable intelligence is included, this tool helps law enforcement build stronger cases and secure arrest warrants. This was completed in 2025. We also launched a National Awareness Campaign aimed at unifying language and messaging around the four human crimes The Knoble focuses on. This effort includes a strategic awareness month calendar and key slogans to help participants amplify a consistent, cohesive message across industries. In partnership with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Center for Evidence-Based Crime Policy at George Mason University (CINA), we hosted a Human Crime Workshop in Washington, D.C. The event brought together 57 representatives from law enforcement, financial institutions, telecommunications companies, and other sectors to strengthen collaboration, discuss SAR effectiveness, and plan national education efforts. This workshop generated three new initiatives in which Phase 1 was completed in 2025. Additionally, we published the Effective Practices to Information Sharing Guide, which encourages financial institutions to enhance their participation in information sharing to aid in the early detection of human crimes. Building on this work, we hosted a follow-up roundtable with 112 participants that fostered thoughtful dialogue on collaboration and best practices, reinforcing the importance of cross-industry partnerships.

Child Sexual Exploitation CSE: In 2024, The Knoble advanced several critical initiatives to combat child sexual exploitation (CSE). We released a PDF version of our CSE Investigative Guide to make the material more accessible and digestible for practitioners. We also hosted a roundtable on the urgent issue of sextortion, bringing together 45 participants for an impactful discussion on risks, prevention, and response strategies. Through Project Umbra, we continued our partnership with top financial institutions and the Child Rescue Coalition, leveraging critical data on child predators. By encouraging banks to include a specific hashtag in SAR filings, Umbra contributed to at least two cases in which law enforcement used an Umbra-related SAR to support an arrest warrant. In addition, we launched the Sextortion Tabletop and Interdiction Map Project (completed in 2025), which brings together law enforcement, financial institutions, telecommunications, and social media platforms to map critical information flows in sextortion cases.
