Discovering our stories is an educational arts program that introduces at-risk youth to the fundamentals of documentary filmmaking. The program provides hands on experience in research, story development, camera operation, interviewing, and editing. Participants work collaboratively to create short films on topics of personal or community relevamce, gaining technical skills and a deeper understanding of storytelling as a vehicle of social change. The program fosters creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork by empowering students to explore their enviroments and express their perspectives through film. By program's end each participant completes an original short documentary and developes foundational skills in media production. Introduces high school students - particularly at-risk and underserved youth - to the fundamentals of storytelling through film. Participants gain hands-on experience in research, camera operation, interviewing, and video editing as they produce short documentaries on issues of personal or community relevance. The program fosters creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration while empowering students to use film as a tool for advocacy and social impact. Students also connect with industry professionals and mentors, gaining exposure to potential careers in media and the arts.
Real work is an initiative through film that raises awareness about the growing crisis of financial scams targeting older adults. Through the story of a scammer's redemption, the film highlights the emotional and financial impact of elder fraud while promoting fraud prevention. Designed as both a cinematic and educational tool, the project includes community screenings, interactive workshops, and resource development to educate seniors on cyber safety and scam awareness.
