Mission
Kroka expeditions is a non-profit wilderness expedition school based on a year-round, organic farm in marlow, new hampshire. We believe that consciousness and altruistic will can be brought forward through a living relationship with the natural world and by taking our places within the circle of community.
Programs
2 programs
Wilderness program - from june to august, kroka offers a variety of outdoor experiences for students ages 6 to 18. Week-long camp based programs introduce the youngest to outdoor adventure; one to two week long expeditions for older children are centered around a specific activity, such as rock-climbing, canoeing, caving, biking, or wild crafts; two to four week programs offer more intensive outdoor experiences for teens. All programs share a core curriculum that includes living simply, the importance of community, as well as participants developing self-mastery through overcoming challenges faced in outdoor adventure and having the oppurtunity to test their own limits. While students develop a deeply personal connection to the outdoors, the programs nurtures their capacity for self-reflection and empathy.
Contract programs - primarily school programs. Working closely with our school partners and the land, we create unique wilderness journeys that integrate expedition travel, community service, farming, crafts, and experiential academic discovery. Living and traveling in nature requires commitment and cooperation within the group. As individuals face challenges, they learn to rely on each other and offer one another physical and emotional support. Under the guidance of kroka staff and the class teacher, students become effective communicators and problem-solvers, and develop a work ethic. These lessons translate directly into daily life in the classroom.
