Mission

CFJ engages volunteer lawyers to provide free direct legal services to people in underrepresented communities, including survivors of domestic violence, immigrants, and veterans.

Programs

3 programs

Domestic Violence Project - Provides legal services to litigants in domestic violence cases. The Project serves about 2,000 people each year. In 2024 the Project was funded by The State Bar of California Legal Services Trust Fund IOLTA and Partnership grants, a contract with the City of Los Angeles, and donations to Counsel for Justice.

Expenses: $483K

Veterans Legal Services Project - Provides legal services to assist veterans in removing legal barriers to employment by focusing on three areas: Misdemeanor expungements, self-help clearing tickets and warrants, and reinstating their California drivers license. The project receives funding from Counsel for Justice's fundraising and donations from corporations and other community stakeholders that support veterans' successful reintegration into the LA community after their military service.

Expenses: $426K

AIDS Legal Services Project - Provides volunteer attorneys to assist people living with HIV and AIDS on a wide range of civil legal issues including discrimination, immigration, public and private benefits, testamentary and debtor/creditor. Funding is provided by IOLTA, Counsel for Justice's fundraising and other donors and grantors. The project was concluded in June, 2024.
