Form 990, part i, line 1, description of organization mission: the latin american and caribbean economic association was founded in july 1992, to encourage greater professional interaction and foster increased dialogue among researchers and practitioners whose work focuses on the economies of latin america and the caribbean. Since its inception, lacea has grown to an organization with an annual average of 1000 active members. Starting from 1996, the association has held annual meetings in mexico city, bogota, buenos aires, santiago, rio de janeiro, montevideo, madird, puebla, san jose costa rica and paris.

Research grants: to help promote the interaction of young and seasoned economists, as well as social scientists and development practitioners, lacea sponsors twelve networks in the field of capacity building. Each network - inequality and poverty (nip), political economy (peg), trade, integration and growth in latin america (tign), impact evaluation (ien), finance camps (ie&f), america latina crime and policy (al capone), labor network, health economics network, behavioral economics network (brain), urban economics network (laurban), humans migration network and economic history network - holds annual meetings in different regions of latin america.

Economia lacea journal is the journal of the latin american and caribbean economic association. Launched in 2000 and initially named "economia", it was published by brookings press until 2022. Currently, the journal is published by lse press in open access and on a continuous publishing format. The journal publishes peer-reviewed general interest research papers in all areas of economics and finance. In 2024 while no expenses were incurred,however a revenue of 5,991 was received from a publication performed in 2023.
