Mission
Legal voice was founded on the belief that all women, girls, and lgbtq+ people should be able to live their lives with dignity, safety, and autonomy. We advance justice and build community power by using multiple strategies: litigation, legislative advocacy, and public education.
Programs
3 programs
Litigation program: we partner closely with those directly impacted to identify legal issues that will have a broad impact across communities. Through these partnerships, we participate as counsel and/or amicus curiae in cases that have the ability to change or create new law, elevate community voices and experiences, and provide opportunities to build community and collective power.
Public education program: through our public education program (pep), legal voice equips stakeholders, allies, and community partners with essential information about the law and their legal rights. We regularly collaborate with community groups to offer trainings, presentations, and know your rights materials, and are committed to making this information as accessible as possible.
Legislative advocacy program: our advocacy is rooted in the priorities, needs, and hopes of the communities we serve. Through a community lawyering approach, we center the vision for change held by those most impacted and invest in leadership development. Together, we draft and advocate for policies at the state and local levels that reflect the goals of marginalized communities, while actively opposing legislation that threatens progress. We believe those closest to the pain must also be closest to the power.alliance: legal voice works with the alliance of state advocates for women's rights and gender equality, an initiative that aligns closely with our mission and values.
