Mission
Our mission is to uphold the integrity of the East Honolulu Sustainable CommunitiesPlan which sets guidelines for sensible development respectful of Hawaiian culturaland natural resources that make East Honolulu a unique place to live. Protection ofland through stewardship or acquisition and connecting community to said lands via education, conservation, and volunteerism engagement.

Hawea & Keawawa Wetland: Renewed agreement with Chaminade University to manage the water quality assessment and use of the preserve as an outdoor classroom. Maintained the endangered wetland bird (Hawaiian Moorhen) count of 14 with 3 successful nesting seasons. Extended the self-managed volunteer program to increase community opportunity. Planted 20 new native seedlings. Applied for 3 grants.
Ka Iwi: Received a reimbursable City and County of Honolulu Grants in Aid for $150K for Kaiwi mauka. Kaiwi Explorations 2023 hosted 185 residents on educated hikes about the cultural and natural significance of the area. This free community event runs for two days with support from partners The Trust for Public Land, Sierra Club Oahu Group, Maunalua.Net, Kamehameha Schools, State of Hawaii Dept. of Parks & Rec., Hui Nalu and Hawaii Trail and Mountain Club. Completed a flora and fauna report. Opened the lands to UH Manoa archeological professor and students to do field work. Kaiwi mauka trail maintenance and self-managed walk /hike pilot programs extended through the year to assist the public with outdoor opportunities.
