Produced deeply reported journalism on the most pressing issues facing boulder county, including wildfire risks and mitigation solutions, homelessness, housing, and government accountability. Coverage in 2024 included stories on city council policy debates, boulder county commission decisions, non-profit governance and local equity issues, and the intersection of higher education, science, and local public policy. Brl's reporting informed public discussions, influenced policy decisions, and earned numerous state and regional journalism awards for excellence and impact.
Focused on strengthening the newsroom's long-term sustainability and expanding its editorial capacity. The organization began implementing recommendations from a newsroom audit to grow revenue, improve performance tracking and enhance reader communication, laying the groundwork for future revenue diversification. It also launched a strategic-planning process to create a roadmap for the organization's continued growth and stability.
