Mission
The society's exempt purpose is to extend medical knowledge, advance medical science, elevate the standards of medical education and training, enforce just medical laws and regulations, promote dialogue and cooperation among physicians and to inform the public about issues affecting the delivery of medical care.

Member communication is accomplished mainly through the the bimonthly newsletter provided by the society and other capsule communications provided via the internet.
The society covers the expenses incurred by selected delagates attending ama meetings and functions as representatives of the louisiana society.
The society publishes a membership directory that is distributed to medical professionsals statewide.
