Mission

The Foundation is a community service organization with three principal charitable activities - fighting food insecurity, supporting youth and educational programs, and funding community organizations. Program services also include weekly meetings for members and the public, and periodic community events to advance and fund our mission.

Programs

5 programs

College scholarships and community service recognition awards for high school students (see Schedule I, Part III for details); distribution of dictionaries to 240 Madison 3rd graders; mentoring and financial support for the Interact Club, a Madison high school service organization; and support for Rotary programs focused on youth exchange and leadership development.

Expenses: $16KGrants: $12K

Biweekly collections of food and paper products donated by residents, totaling approximately 10,000 pounds for the year; periodic packaging or preparation of meals for donation to local organizations; community garden to grow vegetables for donation, totaling about 250 pounds for the year.

Expenses: $25K

Weekly meetings, programs, and service activities, most of which are open to the public. Expenses include Rotary International and District 7475 dues (i.e., payments to affiliates)

Expenses: $27K

Community events to build awareness of our tax-exempt status and charitable purpose and to fund the program services described in Part III, lines 4a-c. Events include: (i) annual Taste of Madison which showcases local restaurants (revenue: $40,249/direct expenses: $28,079), (ii) annual sale of Christmas trees and wreathes ($53,878/$30,497), (iii) participation in various community-building events ($6,452/$4,213), and (iv) a multi-year project to plant 100 trees throughout Madison, commemorating our 100 years of community service ($0/$12,707).

Expenses: $75K

Pass-through activities: One of our members held a senior position within Rotary International and asked that we handle registrations for two of her Rotary events. The revenue collected for these events was "passed through" (i.e.,disbursed) to a part of Rotary International and used to cover the events' costs. There was no net financial impact on Madison Rotary.
