Mission
A broad multi-disciplinary network that works to ensure we can all live healthy, engaged, and secure lives as we age in our homes and communities. With the voices of people with lived experience, we work on policy issues related to poverty, housing, transportation, food, social connection and care across all settings.

MCOA is advancing informed and innovative solutions to the barriers that stand in the way of us all living healthy, engaged, and secure lives as we age at home and in community settings. This work spans many sectors and issues, including housing, transportation, workforce, both ensuring an adequate direct care workforce and ensuring older workers are included as a part of the solution to Maine's workforce shortage, care across all settings, and support for family care partners.
Our Reframing Aging initiative was reborn as our Power in Aging Initiative in 2021. This project engages groups of people, specifically targeting HR directors, the media, healthcare, and employers, in conversations about ageism and the importance to our health, workforce, and economy, to building an age-positive culture and outlook in these areas.
MeHAF is a three-year project aimed at growing Maine's Essential Care and Support Workforce by increasing the number and kinds of people who are engaged in the conversation about this workforce and by issuing reports that underscore the economic value of this workforce to our economy, as well as the cost of doing nothing.
