Mission
Special olympics mission is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other special olympics athletes and the community.

Special olympics owns and operates a 5-acre facility called "camp tall pines" - used primarily as a facility for children and adults with intellectual disabilities to enjoy a traditional camp experience. Camp tall pines has a "formal" summer camp season - june, july, and august, and remains open and available the rest of the year, to any group, school setting, family, workplace, etc. Who serves citizens of maine with intellectual disabilities. The up-keep, improvements, staffing, and maintenance of this facility are also the responsibility of our program.
