Our gold star parents honor and remembrance event provides a safe and compassionate environment where families come together to commemorate their loved ones killed in action, bond over their shared grief, receive support services, counseling specifically to their current situation and build a lasting community at little to no cost to them. We have over 150 parents and their families participating in our annual event.
Meet the author, leading from the front, and lecture series events are our other commemorative and educational events. Our inaugural event of the year was a marines' memorial lecture series featured a presentation by english journalist and author alex kershaw in sept 2023. This event was followed by two more leading from the front events featuring retired navy captain brett crozier and general david petraeus. We hosted a "meet the author" event with a presentation by retired marine aviator eric buer in march 2024, author of "ghosts of baghdad", followed by several "leading from the front" speakers, featuring three prominent figures in the veteran community, former marines: author thomas brennan, cybersecurity ambassador nathaniel fick in april 2024, and crossfit ceo don faul in may 2024.
In 2023, the association awarded more than 40 scholarships to student veterans and students from veteran families, totaling more than $120,000. Each scholarship was between $2,500 and $5,000 and awarded to selected students based on academics, extra-curricular activities, and financial need.
