Mission

We build sustainable businesses and create workplaces that are transformative and dignity-affirming for survivors of complex trauma.

Programs

Trauma healingwe offer holistic trauma training and care within the workplace. We train managers to understand the impact of trauma and adopt trauma-informed leadership practices. In partnership with trained nationals, we facilitate voluntary, 16-week trauma healing groups for employees. Mentors walk with survivors to further their healing journey. In 2024, we trained 36 community leaders in trauma healing program that was then provided to 174 men and women in a region that has experienced high levels of trauma. In our semi-annual staff survey, 92% of employees at nguvu dairy reported in our semi-annual staff survey that they experienced significantly high levels of trauma, including exposure to war and violence, natural disaster, or physical or sexual assault.

Building supportive communityrecognizing that healing takes place in community and in relationship with others, we provide a supportive work culture that encourages mutual respect, healthy dialogue, and teamwork. We strive to create genuine community - spaces of safety, remembrance, and reconnection. Workers learn teamwork, build trust, and gain agency and voice. Programs included team-building activities and social support, including lunches and medical care. In our semi-annual staff survey, 94% of employees reported they felt their lives had improved from working at the dairy. Our work also had an impact on the broader community. Workers typically share up to 25% of their earnings to support immediate and extended family. We support an organized effort in the community to provide most basic food supplies to 200 families each month while offering participation in trauma healing program.
