Maryland Consumer Rights Coalition champions economic rights, equal opportunity, and housing justice through advocacy, research, and direct service.

Tenant Advocacy: 1. Assisted more than 700 clients statewide on a range of landlord-tenant issues. 2. Created new factsheets for tenants on air-conditioning, utility billing, and security deposits. 3. Updated our Tenant Guide; the guide has been downloaded more than 2100 times and distributed widely.
Fair Housing: 1. Filed and assisted with 41 fair housing complaints. 2 Conducted 23 trainings on fair housing requirements and tenant rights, reaching more than 150 people. 3 Created new factsheets on fair housing, housing vouchers, and disability rights.
Medical Debt:1. Released a brand new ?Guide to Medical Debt,? educating Marylanders on their rights and resources for managing medical bills. 2. Developed a training to present at community spaces on how to use the Guide.
Policy General:1. Researched and developed policy solutions to prevent hospitals from using geographic service tests and non-monetary asset tests when determining eligibility for low cost care. 2. Educated legislators and the public on the dangers of anti-consumer policies, such as predatory towing and online payday loans. 3. Joined the steering committee of Renters United Maryland.
