Mission

The Maryland Forestry Foundation supports the programs and activities of the MD Association of Forest Conservancy District Boards and of the 24 county Forestry Boards. We act as fiduciary agent and fundraising manager for their programs. We also administer statewide tree planting initiatives on private land using state grants.

We administer the financial side of the grant programs of the Maryland Urban & Community Forestry Committee (MUCFC) and the Maryland Dept of Transportation (MDOT) Urban Tree grant program. The MUCFC grant program gave out 24 grants in 9 counties worth $16,511. The MDOT distributed 25 grants in 12 counties worth $44,898. MUCFC also spent $4,113 to administer an award program for municipalities that meet the tree care requirements for receiving award plaques. The revenue was a grant from MDOT of $78,311.

The Foundation launched the Urban Forestry Careers Camp at the University of Maryland's College Park campus. We hosted 20 high school students for a week in July. The cost of room, board and field trips was $24,532. Camp coordinator was paid $4,000. College students majoring in Natural Resources acted as counselors and were paid $590 each for a total of $2,950. Materials/supplies/website exps were $2,452. Planning and promotion expenses for the brand new camp was $19,923. The camp was funded by a $94,094 grant from the Maryland Dept. of Natural Resources, student fees of $2,250 and donations of $1,750.

$161,487 in Other Exps: $31,685 in expenses associated with the Natural Resources Careers Camp (NRCC - incl travel, promotion, etc), $45,512 for 4 college students in our Fellowship program, $1,469 of mileage reimbursement to the Big Tree program volunteers, $7,636 maint of new website, $39,397 management of 4 separate grants, $6,325 distribution of donations to Forestry Boards, $25,435 to host a 2-day Forestry Board Summit, $4,028 all other prgm support. $154,197 in Other Revenue: $50,000 grant rec'd for Fellowship program, $29,800 donations and tuition payments for NRCC, $47,630 grant rec'd for Forestry Board Summit, $19,970 grant rec'd for Alignment project, $250 Big Tree contributions, $6,325 contributions to Forestry Boards, $76 donations made to the Foundation, $146 interest income.
