The organization was established to provide a means for the residents of the meadowood retirement community to support resident's activities, both social and educational, and to raise funds to benefit the retirement community as a whole and provide various services and programs to schools and other community organizations, such as bulk food donations, food preparation and community organization appreciation events.

Programs

The resident association includes two commercial activities: a thrift shop and a craft room. The thrift shop sells clothing, furniture and accessories. All of the articles for sale are donated by residents or residents' families. Excess clothing, furniture and kitchen goods are regularly donated to local charities. The main customer bases for the thrift shop is the neighboring community. The craft and woodshop rooms sell crafts. Customers include residents, as well as members of neighboring communities. The wood shop also helps residents with minor repairs.

Programs of entertainmentthe program committee arranges for weekly programs from september through june. The entertainment consists of programs by professional musicians or other professional entertainers. These programs are televised on our in-house network and are available to residents in the health center and in the residences of those who wish to view the performance at home.

Community-oriented activities:these activities focus on community engagement. Examples include the chorus, an art gallery and studio and greeters. Another small group designs and produces a monthly newsletter and activity calendar. A smaller activity is running a small repair activity in the woodshop.educational activities:activities include bringing in philadelphia news correspondents, writers and educators for presentations and discussions on world events, politics and other issues. Expenses are provided from the general budget and the remainder from charges levied for some programs. Another group is involved in maintaining and overseeing the operation of fiction and non-fiction libraries which contain about 8,000 books. A monthly bible study group hosts leaders from local religious organizations.social activities:these activities are aimed at providing increased opportunities for social interactions among residents. Included are activities such as billiards, bridge, and table tennis, as well as special events, like a kentucky derby party and new year's eve party.
