Mission
Our goal and mission is to expand health systems in underserved areas that face tremendous barriers to accessing healthcare. MGY offers community-based solutions with training, programming, and surveillance at a community level. Our most significant activities include overseeing the development and training for community health workers at multiple projects sites both domestically and overseas.
Programs
2 programs
International Community Health Worker Training Program: This program advanced significantly over the last financial year. Our program in Northern Uganda increased its capacity and training, from approximately 100 health workers to 200 overall. This program also increased, with additional health promoters in Peruvian Amazon and additional training in prehospital triage. We also assisted in developing a new health promoter program in Jalapatagua, Guatemala, to build capacity focused on prehospital pediatric triage.
Health Promotion Activities for Chaparral, New Mexico: With significant funding cuts among federally qualitified health centers in rural New Mexico, MGY participated in support and in many cases, developing community health training seminars and events. These also included wellness fairs, community support workshops, and other health promoter activities that directly support building health capacity and providing health education to community members in an underserved popopulation. We also supported a monthly stipend for the lead health promoter in the program to subsidize some of her overal volunteer time working on large projects with MGY.
