Mphi (a new vision for public health in michigan):the need to rebuild collaborative relationships and trust and understanding between state and localhealth departments has been highlighted in several recent reports and convenings including the 2023public health call to action, the june 2023 planning meeting between mdhhs and malph, and themalph covid-19 after-action review. In response to these calls to action, a group of 25 state and localpublic health leaders participated in a strategic visioning process in march 2024 to imagine a new, ambitious vision for public health in michigan. Participants agreed that the new vision should lead toimprove public health outcomes by strengthening the state and local public health infrastructure, expanding funding, enhancing state/local collaboration, and increasing understanding of and trust in thepublic health system.this draft vision was presented at the michigan premier public health conference in october2024. Implementation of strategic priorities related to the vision are planned in 2025.
Communications training for public health staff (mdard, pphc): the purpose of these trainings is to increase communications skills for key county and state public health officials and guide them to more confidently and effectively communicate their work to the public through various communication channels. Each training provided techniques for proactive and reactive communications and instructed participants on the keys for navigating crises, tough questions, angry crowds, investigative reporters, and more. Participants were offered the option to train individually to perform on camera, whether in a formal television news interview or in front of an activist with an iphone.
