The young artist competition is held annually to promote and encourage talented student musicians across the region. Young musicians may compete in one of nine divisions. A jury of regional professional musicians evaluates the competitors. Two musicians are selected as winners and invited to perform with the mid-columbia symphony at one concert of the season. Eligible are instrumental students from age 6th grade through 12th grade who reside in the mid-columbia region of washington and oregon. 13 youth entered/competed in this year's competition.

Expenses: $800

Mcyo is our youth orchestra (youth symphony & cadet strings) that was started in the 2014-15 season to provide local young musicians the opportunity to perform in a large ensemble that is not available in the schools. Students must reside in benton and franklin counties and be between the ages of 12 and 18 or 19 years (if graduating senior). Students audition for their spot in our educational program. They have three concerts a year and participate in collaborations with the mid-columbia symphony (side-by-side concert) and other youth performing arts groups every other year. We currently have over 60 student musicians.
