The financial empowerment learning institute (feli) - midas, in partnership with united way, leads a statewide workforce development initiative that equips nonprofit professionals in the personal finance sector with the skills and knowledge needed to deliver high-impact financial coaching across massachusetts. In 2024, feli launched a pilot training initiative to professionalize community-based coaching, reduce coach attrition, and improve outcomes in disinvested communities. For the first time, feli partnered with the association for financial counseling & planning education (afcpe) to provide foundational training for new or previously untrained nonprofit staff. This program features a cohort model and includes a pathway to certification for tenured nonprofit staff. Feli has helped to train over 650+ nonprofit professionals since 2015, with 200+ organizations represented from across massachusetts. Feli participants have an 85% completion rate, allowing them to better serve communities with culturally relevant financial education.
