Programs
3 programs
Clinic: Our in-house veterinary clinic was fully operational during 2024 with a combination of paid staff and volunteer veterinarians, veterinary technicians and veterinary assistants. Volunteer vets were also able to help with the TNR program. This team was able to help approximately 900 animals, including approximately 750 shelter pets and approximately 240 feral cats. The veterinarians performed routine services such as physical exams, spay/neuter surgeries and vaccinations, as well as more complex procedures such as amputations, eye removal, polyp and mass removals.
Community Cat Program: MHF's community cat program directly impacted approximately 615 cats during 2024. We provided Trap-Neuter-Return for approximately 240 stray and feral cats from numerous sites in Fauquier and surrounding counties. Almost 50% of the TNR cats were female, which equates to approximately 744 kittens not being added to the community cat population in the year to come. There were 4 TNR clinics held during the year and 100% of the surgeries took place in the shelter clinic. 16 adult cats were adopted out as either indoor or working barn cats. MHF's Kitten College program continued to train fosters for nursing mothers and their kittens. Stray or feral kittens, were vetted at the shelter, placed into temporary homes for socialization and then adopted out or transported to other approved rescue partners.
Other program expenses include programs for livestock, facility expenses, insurance, and a percentage of admin expenses.
