The tampa bay latin international film festival is a vibrant one-day celebration of latin cinema during hispanic heritage month. The tampa bay latin international film festival, in partnership with creative pinellas and mi gente, mi pueblo, presented a curated selection of independent films from local and international filmmakers, including narrative shorts, documentaries, and animation. Before the show, audiences explored the art gallery, savored complimentary latin cuisine, and bomba performances. Attendees captured the moment our step and repeat with a professional photographer on the red carpet, had the opportunity to take a stroll through the beautiful botanical gardens. The tampa bay latin international film festival engaging captivating stories inspired by latin culture at this unforgettable cinematic journey in tampa bay showcased 12 short films divided into two blocks. Block 1 featured "shoes, all walks of life" (4:14), "lupe q and the galactic corn cake" (5 mins), "distancia" (7:59), "sidewalk serendipity" (8 mins), "line by line" (8:38), "the lost son" (10:52), "puerto rican jew" (12:06), and "vela" (14:21). Block 2 included "two million dollar man" (15:27), "cacique del monte" (16:35), "to esteban" (16:52), and "freedom is a verb" (17:05). Four of these films received awards.

Reclamando fosters healing and community empowerment by providing tools for participants to unpack personal narratives and share experiences through artistic expression and dialogue. This program promotes collective action in thriving conditions and informs culturally sensitive healthcare practices. The latinx* community in the tampa bay area faces pervasive discrimination and trauma that significantly impair mental health and social cohesion. According to the american psychological association (apa), latinx immigrants encounter extreme challenges - ranging from poverty and political persecution to violence, racism, and colorism - before, during, and after their immigration journey. These experiences often result in severe ethno-racial trauma, adversely impacting physical health, mental well-being, social relationships, and opportunities for academic and career success. Compounding these challenges, a harvard health study - cited in psychology today - suggests that writing can play a critical role in healing from traumatic experiences. The study indicates that writing enables individuals to better regulate their emotions and construct narratives that help them process and reframe their traumas. Despite the clear benefits of creative expression as a healing tool, latinx voices remain underrepresented in spaces that facilitate such transformative practices. This lack of accessible, culturally sensitive healing environments leaves a significant gap in addressing the deep-seated, generational trauma experienced by the community.
