Provide programs and services to help older iowans live safely and independently at home.

Milestones social services program provides core aging and disabilities resource services, such as information & assistance via toll-free line and person-centered options counseling, and case management for longer-term assistance. Social services programs also include caregiver services, including support groups; elder abuse prevention, which includes community education on awareness and prevention of elder abuse, and assistance to those in dangerous situations; and contracted home and community-based services for those in need, such as homemaker, transportation, personal care, and emergency response systems. In sfy 24, 3,854 consumers received 40,484 units of service through social services programs. A separate program area, evidence-based programs, offers classes, information, and resources targeted to helping adults age well and in good health. Falls prevention is a focus of this programming, and community classes are conducted by credentialled milestones staff with the goal of reducing debilitating falls and increasing well-being among older consumers so they can live safely and independently at home.

Information & assistance refers to the lifelong links statewide toll-free line that provides information and service referrals to callers in each aaa's service area. In sfy 2024, milestones's information & assistance resource navigators responded to 3,171 calls from 2,084 consumers. These numbers demonstrate that consumer needs continue, and that the area agencies' information & referral service is a trusted resource across our region, and across the state.
