Programs

During the year, the conservancy operated and maintained approximately 30 miles of multi-use trails and conserved open space fo hiking, biking, equestrain activities, nature observation, volunteer workdays, and outdoor classes. The conservancy scheduled more than 125 nature, wellness, and conservation-focus programs serving approximately 1,790 individuals; partner organizations served an additional 1,360 individuals through activities conducted on conservancy property, including texas a&m outdoor education, community runs, and skills-based classes. Programming included guided hikes, trail runs, fishing instruction, outdoor skills, community events that demonstrate responsible land and wildlife stewardship on private conserved land. These activities advance the conservancy's exempt purpose by making nature-based experiences accessible to the brazos valley community and by modeling community that coexists with conservation.
The conservancy delivered place-based education focused on nature, conservation, and wellness for children and adults. Camp millican, an outdoor summer camp operated for eight week, served approximately 205 children ages 4-14, including participants from the boys & girls club of the brazos valley whose attendance was funded through grants. Curriculum emphasized outdoor safety, nature discovery, stewardship, and healthy lifestyles consistent with the conservancy's purpose and values. Additional community engagement included work with community partners and regional nonprofits to extend the conservancy's educational reach.
The conservancy supports a working farm at millican reserve that practices sustainable and regenerative agriculture. Farms operations supply fresh produce to the community through seasonal sales, special events and partnership outlets. The farm also functions as an educational site where vistors, volunteers, and students learn about soil health, local food systems, and land stewardship. Farm acivity is reported in program service revenue and in other expenses associated with agricultural operations.
The conservancy activates the land and connects people to its mission through outdoor events and seasonable gatherings, including trail-based events and nature celebrations such as trail races, pumpkinpalooza fall festival, and other activities. These events foster a shared sense of place, encourage outdoor recreation and often incorporate educational, artistic, or heritage-based components related to the brazos valley. Events are designed to strengthen community ties to nature while highlighting conservation and stewardship practices. Where events include both programmatic and fundraising elements, the revenue and direct expenses are reported in accordance with irs schedule g guidance.
