Mission
Miri's Haven is an all-volunteer, foster-based 501c3 senior dog rescue dedicated to the rescue, care, and adoption of senior dogs into loving, forever homes throughout Maryland, DC, Virginia, and West Virginia. We are run entirely by dedicated volunteers and do not receive any public funding. Funding is derived entirely from fundraising and donations offered by individuals and local organizations who believe in our mission. We are committed to helping the animals of our community and acting as a voice for the most vulnerable senior dogs. Dogs welcomed into Miri's Haven receive all necessary veterinary care, not excluding those dogs most medically needy. Our dogs are then placed into safe, loving foster homes where they continue to receive love and veterinary care until adoption. For most, we seek and arrange perfect placement in a permanent home, however, others will remain in our care as a sanctuary dog.
Programs
3 programs
Spay and Neuter All Dogs Prior to Adoption To support responsible pet ownership and control the pet population, Miris Haven ensures that 100% of all dogs are spayed or neutered before adoption. During the tax year, we successfully spayed or neutered over 100 dogs in preparation for permanent homes. This program reduces the risk of unwanted litters, supports long-term community animal welfare, and helps adopters avoid future medical costs associated with reproductive health.
Address All Immediate Medical Concerns, Vaccines, Microchips, and Dental Cleanings- Senior dogs often arrive with untreated medical conditions. Miri's Haven addresses all urgent health needs including vaccinations, microchipping, dental cleanings, and necessary treatments for infections, arthritis, or chronic conditions. In the reporting period, 155 dogs received full medical evaluations and care, including 150 dental procedures and 90 microchips implanted. These services improve adoptability, extend the dogs' quality of life, and provide adopters with healthy, ready-for-home companions.
