Mission

The organization works to challenge and end the human rights abuses committed against transgender, gender variant, and intersex people, particularly against Black and transgender women of color, in California prisons, jails, detention centers, and beyond.

Programs

2 programs

Re-Entry and Legal Support The Organization provides legal services through mail correspondence with incarcerated people in the San Francisco jail, California prisons, and nationally, as well as through its Legal Emergency Line. The team, including a Staff Attorney and Legal Coordinator, supports both incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals with services like legal advice, referrals, and assistance with name and gender changes. Additionally, the Organization conducts San Francisco jail visits, offering workshops and programming alongside re-entry staff.

Expenses: $952KGrants: $300

Wellness The program is designed to support transgender women of color in San Francisco - especially Black transgender women by addressing their unique needs through wellness, and leadership development services. The participants, the majority of whom are Black, face intersecting challenges like homelessness, violence, substance use, and criminalization due to systemic racism, transphobia, and structural trauma. The programs aim to empower these individuals to self-advocate and heal, while confronting the lasting impacts of police violence, incarceration, and chronic marginalization.
