Mission
Mrk builds strong foundations in early literacy and lifelong learning in georgetown county's children to enter school ready to succeed.
Programs
2 programs
Miss ruby's kids matches parentchild+ graduates with trained volunteer education mentors once they enter school. Mentors visit their mentees at school for at least 30 minutes each week, offering consistent encouragement, academic support, and positive relationship building. The program provides group mentoring opportunities, enrichment activities, and family engagement to help students stay connected and confident throughout their educational journey.
Through our little ruby's libraries, miss ruby's kids helps to expand children's access to books by placing free, community-based mini-libraries across georgetown county. Each library is stewarded by local volunteers who help keep them stocked with high-quality, age-appropriate books children can take home and keep. A key focus of the program is selecting books that reflect the diverse identities, cultures, and experiences of the children and families we serve, helping foster belonging, confidence, and a love of reading. Little ruby's libraries helps ensure that all children have consistent access to engaging reading materials year-round.
