Mission

The missoula area youth hockey association (mayha) operates glacier ice rink and offers a wide range of ice sports programs for the missoula community. In addition to running our own youth and adult hockey programs and public sessions, we rent ice to external user groups including the missoula figure skating club, missoula curling club, women's hockey association of missoula, and the university of montana men's hockey team. We also provide ice time for private events, school groups, and nonprofit partners. Our mission is to inspire a passion for ice sports among people of all ages and abilities. We strive to create a welcoming environment that promotes physical fitness, personal growth, and community connection. During the 2023-2024 season, more than 33,000 people participated in or attended activities at the rink. The largest spectator events included 13 um griz hockey games, with an average of 1,200 people in attendance at each game, and the annual fire on ice charity game with 1,700

Our adult hockey program provides a fun, competitive environment where adult players of all ages and abilities can enjoy the thrill of the game. In the 2023-2024 winter season, the glacier hockey league had 959 adults participate across 70 teams in nine divisions. Our morning reserve programs offer a less competitive option for those who prefer early game times. Participants were surprised one friday morning when nhl hockey hall of famer scott niedermayer joined them for a game. We also hosted three adult tournaments with 46 participating teams, including one tournament that was played in below zero temperatures on the outdoor rink.

Public programs, ice rentals and field trips continue to be a major part of our community programming. We used 3,934 hours of ice during the 2023-2024 season and welcomed 22,174 participants to our public skating and public hockey sessions. We hosted 793 children through school field trips and nonprofit rentals, and held four themed community skating events, including a sold-out swiftie skate that featured music from taylor swift. We also offered two free sled hockey clinics to help make hockey inclusive and accessible to everyone.
