Mission
Stream Teams United promotes and supports Missouri Stream Teams and Stream Team Associations. We facilitate education of Stream Teams and the general public in order to build an appreciation and knowledge of Missouri stream resources. We support stewardship projects to improve the health of Missouri's rivers and streams. We advocate for clean water, provide information to Missouri citizens, and serve as a united voice for healthy Missouri waters.
Programs
4 programs
Paddle MO. Stream Teams United hosts annual multi-day educational river adventures on several of Missouri's greatest riverways. The Paddle MO program provides individuals the opportunity to experience a multi-day river trip where the logistics and support are provided by Stream Teams United and Stream Team volunteers. Participants receive instruction on paddling, river safety, and the ecology and history of the river and its surrounding communities. The Paddle MO program helps promote Missouri as the Great Rivers State and connect paddlers to the efforts of the Missouri Stream Team program, with the goal of growing the community of river stewards within the state.
AmeriCorps VISTA - Waves for Successful Lives and Clean Communities. Stream Teams United serves as a sponsor for a statewide AmeriCorps VISTA project, which serves to place AmeriCorps members at Stream Team host-sites in the state of Missouri. AmeriCorps members at these sites help increase the capacity of the host site to reach low income youth with water quality education and opportunities to experience nature. AmeriCorps member activities include development of curriculum and outreach content, recruitment and training of volunteers, partnership building, and grant writing and fundraising efforts.
Show-Me Less Plastic. In 2024, Stream Teams United began a three-year effort to increase awareness about plastic pollution and its effects to human health and the environment. In collaboration with regional partners, informational workshops will be organized in the project service area in 2025-2027, with the purpose of increasing awareness about the issue and facilitating discussions with local residents and decision makers about tangible actions that Missourians can make to reduce the impact of plastic on our individual health and our environment.
Stream Advocacy. Stream Teams United provides information to Missouri Stream Teams and the general public related to ways they can advocate for Missouri's rivers, streams, and natural resources. Stream Teams United provides information about public hearings, stakeholder meetings, and opportunities to provide written comments for water related issues throughout the state. Stream Teams United reviews state legislation, regulations, permits, and plans to determine if there are proposed changes that are of interest to the Stream Team community and provides interpretation of proposed changes for Stream Teams and the general public. Stream Teams United hosts an annual Stream Advocacy Workshop to discuss current advocacy issues and provide information on how Teams and the general public can help advocate for rivers, streams, and natural resources.
