Mission
Provide intercollegiate athletics a proper role in education, to organize, control and supervise intercollegiate athletics among the institutions of the conference and to establish standards and promote scholarship and sportsmanship among the conference members.
Programs

In addition to the national basketball tournament, the conference promotes the overall athletic programs for each of the conferences' member institutions and strives to increase the general recognition of the conference.
The conference conducts a post-season basketball tournament for all of the member institutions' men's & women's basketball teams. The winner of the tournament receives an automatic invitation to the ncaa basketball tournament.
The conference contracts with regional and national television networks to provide tv exposure for the member's basketball programs.
