Nourish the nourish program works to provide weekend food backpacks to children countywide. We have provided more than 77,000 backpacks of food during the 2014-24 school years, representing more than 600,000 meals provided to food insecure children. Each week we provide backpacks of food to all of the county schools from elementary to high school. The schools identify the most food insecure students and we provide backpacks of food each friday through the school year. We also do a summer backpack program to support food insecure students in the summer when school is out. Food is purchased from food finders food bank and backpacks are packed and delivered by volunteer groups and individuals.
Montgomery county alternative school in collaboration with the three school corporations, we operate an alternative school for high school and middle school students. We focus on credit recovery for high school students and continuing schoolwork who may have been suspended, expelled or just not benefiting from the traditional educational setting. We have the capacity for 15 students in the morning and 15 in the afternoon for the high school, and 10 students for the middle school, all working online through a program called apex. They work at their own pace completing classes and earning credits toward graduation. It is an opportunity to provide an education for youth who may not otherwise be able to complete their high school diploma.
Additional programs include teen court, jump, reindear program, youth as resources (yar), child abuse prevention, inspire, drug & alcohol prevention, and sel program.
