Mission

Alleviate poverty by uniting and strengthening vulnerable neighborhoods.

Programs

1 program

Neighborhood development - incommon empowers neighbors to lead change in their neighborhood so that every family has an opportunity to raise their kids in a safe + thriving environment. Incommon works with residents of all ages to identify and foster leadership skills, develop community-building programs, build playgrounds and community spaces, and take on beautification and clean-up projects in our neighborhoods. In 2024, 20 neighbors graduated from local leader school, an empty lot was transformed into a skatepark, 14 youth participated in a paid summer internship program, and every month, incommon partnered with neighbors to host community meals, neighborhood clean-ups, and other community-building activities. Since 2012, violent crime has decreased 11%, graduation rates have increased 15%, and poverty has decreased by 17%! And in walnut hill, since incommon's presence in the neighborhood in 2018, there has been a 4.2% decrease in poverty rates, a 1.8% increase in graduation rates, and a 16% decrease in violent crime.
