Mission

Mountainlands community housing association's (mcha) purpose is based on the belief that a safe affordable home is often a family's first step toward economic self-sufficiency. Mcha addresses the dual problems of housing affordability and availability on three fronts: acquisition and new construction of affordable housing, direct assistance in securing housing and needed basic services, and education and advocacy to promote housing policy.

Programs

3 programs

The mutual self-help housing program is a usda/rural development program sponsored by mountainlands for low-income to very low-income families to achieve the dream of home ownership through "sweat equity". During this fiscal year, the self help program saw funding at the federal level cut and delayed, which caused delays in closing the next group of participants. Group 25 participants began construction on 6 townhomes in the parkview place development in heber city. Group 25 is scheduled to be completed by the fall of 2025. The next group of self-help participants have submitted their applications. Due to the funding cuts, we do not expect these homes to be funded until next spring.

Expenses: $1.4M

Last year, mountainlands continued work the parkview place subdivision in heber city, a 49-lot subdivision. The subdivision constists of 13 single family, 30 townhomes and 6 duplex units. All of which will be sold as affordable housing. We continue to make progress as in 2024 construction started on group 25 of the self-help program which includes 6 affordable townhome units. These units are expected to be completed in the fall of 2025.

Expenses: $1.0M

In 2024, mcht completed mineros, a 24 unit affordable rental project located in the silver creek development. These rental units are rented to qualified tenants making 60% of the area median income or less.
