Mission
Since 2006, Ms. JD has set out to support and improve the experiences of women law students and lawyers. For nearly twenty years, we have done so with thoughtful in-person and virtual programming that increases access and provides a supportive network for women in the legal profession and their allies. We believe in the simple truth that women's victories are everyone's victories. In 2024, Ms. JD provided free resources and programs to more than 900 pre-law students, helping them navigate the law school admissions process and prepare to successfully enter law school. In 2024, Ms. JD supported more than 650 women law students with free and low-cost programs, enabling them to develop critical leadership skills, grow their networks, and enhance their professional development. Our Fellowship Program has provided more than 190 rising 3L students with mentorship and invaluable opportunities for networking, skill-building, and professional growth. Law Student Leadership Academy: Ms. JD's two-day Intensive program is a unique opportunity for law students to develop the tools necessary to enhance their professional development, network with other law students from across the country, and help them become the leader they aspire to be. Students will hear from attorneys, thought leaders, and professional development professionals speaking on their personal experiences of women in leadership positions and their advice on developing the professional skills required to become and support women in leadership.
We Persist: A Symposium on Women in Law is a networking and professional development event hosted by Ms. JD. Designed to inspire, educate, and connect women in the legal profession, the symposium brings together accomplished women leaders and subject matter experts to share experiences, provide industry knowledge, and foster meaningful professional relationships. Through keynote addresses, expert-led panels, and facilitated conversations, attendees will gain insights from established leaders while building a supportive community of peers within the legal field.
Determined to Rise: Determined to Rise is a free, one-day academy in law and leadership for middle school students grades 6-8, featuring fun workshops, interactive activities, and the chance to meet real law students, attorneys, and lawmakers. Students get the chance to practice their legal skills, learn about the justice system, and see themselves as future members of the legal profession.
Public Interest Scholarship: The Ms. JD Scholarship program provides a stipend to students as they pursue careers in public interest and civil rights law. Ms. JD aims to award scholarships to applicants who will become leaders in the public interest and civil rights community and who will follow through on a plan to pursue public interest and civil rights career paths. This commitment can be demonstrated through prior work experience (not necessarily legal in nature), engagement in public service or civil rights work during your undergraduate and legal education, and service and volunteer work. Successful applicants demonstrate an understanding of the rewards and challenges of a public interest or civil rights legal career.
The Fellowship Program is Ms. JD's program for outstanding rising 3L students. In addition to receiving invitations and financial support to attend a Ms. JD Law Student Leadership Academy Intensive, each Fellowship recipient is paired with a mentor and will complete a project that benefits the community or women in the legal profession generally.
Pre-Law Foundations: Ms. JD's Pre-Law Foundations is a free virtual program to guide you through the entire process of starting your law school journey. From making the decision to apply to law school, all the way to your first day, Foundations has resources to set you up for success. Ms. JD's Pre-Law Foundations is also home to the free Application Accelerator, a multi-day virtual conference designed to help you create the strongest law school application. The Accelerator will have sessions in both May and October to guide you through the entire application process.
