Mission

Music Artists Coalition's purpose is to promote the common business interest for its membership and engage in advocacy on behalf of individual music artists, including, without limitation, performers, music producers and songwriters.

Programs

2 programs

Music Artists Coalition advocated before multiple government bodies to protect artists' rights, including: (1) submitting written comments before the U.S. Copyright Office regarding reform of performing rights organizations' consent decrees to ensure songwriters maintain fair compensation for public performances; (2) submitting formal comments to the UK government opposing unconsented AI ingestion of copyrighted works; (3) filing an amicus brief in Vetter v. Resnick (Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals) to protect artist copyright ownership rights; (4) organizing coalition letters with 36+ music industry organizations supporting ticketing reform legislation across multiple states; and (5) advocating to federal and state policymakers to establish protections for music creators against unauthorized use of their work in artificial intelligence systems.

Monitoring implementation of the Music Modernization Act MMA, passed in October 2018, which reforms the process of music licensing and creates a formalized body, the Mechanical Licensing Collective MLC, run by publishers, that a administers the mechanical licensing of compositions on streaming services, and b funds the creation of a first-of-its-kind, comprehensive database. The corporation seeks to ensure that the policies and procedures developed under the MMA create a system by which songwriters have ease of collection of their royalties and ensure that the MLC is not used by licensees as a tool to convince congress to create regulated or compulsory systems with respect to any other song writer's income stream.
