Mission

My people community services, inc. Was founded in 2014 with a vision to engage in community-based therapeutic and preventive initiatives directly within the hartford community. Too often, community members must engage with one of the "systems" (educational, court, or social services) to address their mental health and behavioral needs, resulting in services and support dictated by the referring entity's terms rather than their own conditions. This introduction has contributed to much of the community becoming weary and distrustful of social service providers and consequently, lends to exacerbated suffering from trauma, abuse, and misinformation. With all of this in mind, my people community services endeavors to build trust with the community and create and provide supports to help individuals heal, feel supported and uplifted.

Programs

3 programs

Blue hills civic association program: together with the blue hills civic association, mpcs is strengthening its infrastructure and expanding community programming to better support the needs of the greater hartford community. Through strategic use of funding for core support, staffing, and program development, mpcs is enhancing its ability to provide nondiscretionary services that address the social, emotional, and economic needs of underserved populations. This investment allows mpcs to increase access to critical support services, improve organizational capacity, and foster long-term community impact.

Expenses: $191K

Urban trauma: together with the connecticut department of children and families, mpcs is assisting in designing a urban trauma collective care center. By implementing an alternative intervention designed to uniquely meet the mental health needs of african american and latino children living in urban communities, mpcs can help close the mental health treatment gaps associated with this population.

Expenses: $136K

Positive youth development ("pyd"): pyd is a research-based approach that guides communities in the way they organize support and opportunities so that young people can develop to their full potential. At its fullest expression pyd is undertaken by communities in collaboration with young people to provide the environments, relationships, and experiences all youth need to thrive. More often, it is an approach led by youth-serving organizations and programs to improve their effectiveness and co-create better outcomes with and for youth. Pyd is an intentional, prosocial approach that engages youth within their families, peer groups, schools, organizations and communities in a manner that is productive and constructive; recognizes, utilizes, and enhances youth's strengths and assets; and promotes positive outcome for young people by providing opportunities, fostering positive relationships and furnishing the support needed to build on their leadership strengths.the manhood tree: comprised of four community based initiatives that aim to support men and fathers. The initiatives emphasize the importance of men's mental and physical health and provides men the opportunity to tell their story. The manhood tree initiatives stretch men outside of their comfort zone and encourage them to venture into topics and areas of their lives they don't often visit.life after high school: navigating the future is a comprehensive initiative designed to guide high school students, beginning in the 11th grade, through the pivotal transition into life after high school. Our program, aptly named life after high school (lahs), is committed to equipping students with the skills and knowledge essential for success in various post graduation paths, whether it be higher education, the workforce, entrepreneurship, vocational programs, or service in the armed forces.the dream chaser academy (dca): a transformative program designed to inspire and empower young people to pursue their dreams with confidence. Our goal is to shift perspectives from "i can't" to "i can, and from "stop dreaming" to "never stop dreaming."
