Program #2: Spay/ Neuter - Monthly Spay/Neuter Clinics offer free surgical services for registered Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community members and residents of that Community.
Program #3: Humane Education Opportunities: The Salt River K9 Youth Program is a specialized 5-week curriculum designed for children aged 13-18 in partnership with the Salt River Community Childrens Foundation and the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Scottsdale. Youth participants engage in classroom learning and hands-on training with shelter dogs, developing life skills that foster empathy, responsibility, and resiliencewhile also helping dogs become more adoptable. Our culturally appropriate animal assisted SEL (Social Emotional Learning) curriculum was designed specially for our Community. The Salt River K9 Youth Program supports our youth by helping to develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes essential for managing emotions, setting and achieving goals, building healthy relationships, and making responsible decisions. The five core competencies of SEL are self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. Our Salt River Pima- Maricopa Indian Community youth integrated these skills while training shelter dogs and teaching these shelter dogs life skills that in turn helped the dogs get adopted.
