Grassroots justice networkthe grassroots justice network (gjn) remains the world's largest (and growing) collective of grassroots justice defenders and their allies. Our 16,500+ members represent more than 4,200 civil society organizations, working directly with communities across 180 countries. Throughout 2024, more than 1,300 members from 70+ countries convened in person and online to exchange strategies for resisting repression and deepening democracy. Gjn continues to bring people together to share knowledge and advocate collectively. Last year, gjn created podcasts, reports, and other practical resources showcasing legal empowerment strategies from 26 countries to strengthen the rule of law and advance justice. Additionally, gjn is laying the groundwork for the grassroots justice network school, a learning institute designed to catalyze transformative systems change in 100 countries.

Citizenship in kenya, paralegals work together with people to secure identification (id) documents, ensuring they can access their fundamental rights as citizens. In 2024, 1,015 id documents were secured which positively affected the lives of 2,257 people. Without basic documents like birth certificates, id cards, or passports, people cannot access essential services or participate in governance. Paralegals support community ambassadors to take action outside of their own cases to know, use, and shape the law. In 2024, the citizenship program built the capacity of 230 community ambassadors through workshops that strengthened skills in advocacy tactics, communication, engagement, organizing, and risk mitigation.
