Mission

NAMI Summit County seeks to improve the quality of life for families and individuals who are impacted by mental illness through support, education and advocacy.

Programs

6 programs

Reedy Housewarming provides new, basic household items to those persons with serious mental health conditions who are transitioning from homelessness, group living, or incaration, and have recovered to be able to live independently. During 2024 the Reedy Housewarming program provided 171 people with basic household items to assist them to live independently.

Creative Kids - NAMI Summit County sponsors and funds children with mental health risks to attend various programs to help mental health, including karate, music programs and gymnastics. During 2024, 71 youth were served.

Needy Soles - Needy Soles footwear provides shoes and other footwear to those who cannot afford to buy their own. During 2024, Needy Soles provided 222 clients with new shoes, boots and socks.

Expenses: $28K

Hair Care - NAMI Hair Care program provides mentally ill clients with a voucher redeemable at The Akron Barber College and Beyond Expectation Barber College to obtain hair care. During 2024, 465 haircuts were provided to those clients.

Fred Frese Scholarship was initially funded in 2023 to provide scholarships to graduate students in the mental health field. 2 scholarships were awarded during 2024.

Expenses: $4K

Client Activity and Socialization Fund (CAS) - NAMI CAS provides clients with movie passes, baseball tickets, picnics, holiday meals etc. CAS impacted more than 2000 clients during 2024.
