Mission
The national building museum inspires curiosity about the world we design and build.
Programs
3 programs
School programming:we offered 325 formal programs for a total of 8,198 students. In addition, we welcomed 3,300 students to explore the museum on their own without a formal facilitated program. Out-of-school youth (teens):the museum did not offer any out-of-school youth (teens) programs in fy24. Out-of-school youth (summer camp):the museum relaunched summer camp for youth this year. We welcomed 60 out of school youth spread across three weeks of summer camp.community engagement: families, early learners, and all-ages programming: big build (5,384 attendees), gingerbread workshop in december (265 attendees), offered monthly girl scout program opportunities, and continued monthly steam saturday and weekly storytime that are both free to the public. We also opened our new exhibition building stories and launched a series of free community days in association with the exhibition (over 2,600 attendees). Our summer installation, destination domino included family workshops which saw 166 in attendance. Adult programming: the museum presented 27 in-person programs, and one virtual program for adult audiences, serving a total of 3,494 people. The museum's high-profile lecture series spotlight on design featured chris cornelius, marlon blackwell, and weiss/manfredi among others. In october, the museum's vincent scully prize was presented to walter hood at an in-person program. We launched a new winter series called great movies in the great hall, as well as a live storytelling series. The annual darwina l. Neal cultural landscapes lecture featured landscape architect sara zewde. The museum also hosted a first-time homebuyers' fair and a seminar on accessory dwelling units. The museum hosted a virtual panel in support of the frank lloyd wright exhibition, as well as walking tours in support of the capital brutalist exhibition. Total audiences fy24: 26,208
