Mission
The national communication association (nca) advances communication as the discipline that studies all forms, modes, media, and consequences of communication through humanistic, social scientific and aesthetic inquiry. The nca serves the scholars, teachers and practitioners who are its members by enabling and supporting their professional interests in research and teaching. Dedicated to fostering and promoting free and ethical communication. The nca promotes the widespread appreciation of the importance of communication in public and private life, the application of competent communication to improve the quality of human life and relationships, and the use of knowledge about communication to solve human problems.

National convention: nca produces an annual convention for approximately 4,000 communication scholars. The convention includes over 1,000 formal education sessions as well as a variety of opportunities for professional networking.
Nca partners with routledge/taylor and francis to publish twelve academic journals, including communication and critical/cultural studies, communication and race, communication education, communication monographs, communication teacher, critical studies in media communication, communication and democracy, journal of applied communication research, journal of international and intercultural communication, quarterly journal of speech, review of communication, and text and performance quarterly. Nca also publishes a magazine and other items in-house.
