Mission
Founded in 1914, the national foreign trade council is the pre-eminent business association dedicated solely to international trade, investment and economic policy issues. Its mission is to advance global commerce by advocating public policies that foster an open international trade and investment regime; mobilizing expertise and information on key issues, such as international trade and investment, the world trading system, tariffs and trade agreements, international taxation, supply chains, and national security and competitiveness; and influencing public debate through interaction with policy makers and opinion leaders and by convening government and private sector discussions of important issues. To achieve its objectives, the council harnesses the expertise of its dedicated professional staff, a robust committee structure, and an engaged board of directors.

The council maintained its leadership role in addressing international tax policy issues by engaging with international organizations to influence global tax policy discussions, collaborating with the administration and congress to shape u.s. Tax legislation and regulations, and through its ongoing leadership in advocating for bilateral tax treaties. The council continued to lead on trade policy, including through its tariff reform coalition and its special project on the wto and the oecd to facilitate multilateral trade policy initiatives. The council also continued to lead a unique coalition on national security and competitiveness issues, the alliance for national security and competitiveness, which helps lead business community engagement and serve as a partner to the government to inform policymaking. Through its supply chain working group, the council continued to promote compliance with u.s. Trade laws, bolster supply chain resilience and facilitate the efficient entry of lawful products and services. All these initiatives have provided critical information and support to the council's globally-engaged member companies.
