Mission

To lead a united effort of insurers, law enforcement and representatives (continued in sch o) of the public to prevent and combat insurance fraud and crime.

Geospatial imagery - provided insurance industry and first responders with geospatial support and analytics throughout 2024 catastrophic events. In 2024, nicb provided location information to assist gic's collection of imagery for 4 tornados causing damage throughout the midwest and southwest regions of the united states; 4 hurricanes causing damage throughout the southeast, southwest, and mid-atlantic regins of the united states; and 3 fires causing damage throughout the southwest and west regions of the united states; and 1 flood causing damage throughout the west. Nicb also provided direct support to emergency responders, law enforcement and the insurance industry throughout 12 catastrophes. Overall, in 2024 nicb responded to 12 catastrophes, resulting in the publication of 36 event alerts and 49 alerts on potential fraud.

Intelligence & analytics - published 582 medaware alerts, disseminated 368 suspect vehicle leads for investigation and potential recovery (15% reported as recovered).

Learning and development - the nicb learning & development department provided numerous training offerings to member companies, law enforcement and key stakeholders. Training programs included virtual instructor-led fraudsmart training to 8,004 participants, specialized academies and conferences to 196 attendees and in-person training to 439 partners. In addition, over 43,000 individuals enrolled in 145,300 on-demand elearning courses through the national insurance crime training academy (nicta) which covered a wide array of insurance crime and fraud topics.

Communications and strategy, policy & government affairs - nicb engaged in legislative/regulatory efforts in conjunction with members, trade groups, and anti-fraud partners in various states on issues involving auto theft, catalytic converter theft, auto glass fraud, predatory towing, counterfeit airbags, legal system abuse, and data sharing. Nicb submitted 155 letters to lawmakers and committees across the country, testified 18 times, and assisted in drafting 41 pieces of legislation. Nicb provided policy recommendations regarding national vehicle crime trends, tracked consumer data privacy bills across the country, and spearheaded efforts to pass comprehensive towing reform in several states. Worked with communications to generate proclamations issued by governors in 21 states formally recognizing nicb's contractor fraud awareness week. Nicb leveraged data, intelligence, and partnerships to create 21 public affairs campaigns aligned with topics relevant to members, law enforcement, and industry partners, including campaigns on vehicle and contractor fraud.
