The NLGA provides a medium for the exchange of views and expression on issues of shared interest, fosters interstate cooperation, and improves the efficiency and effectiveness of states and US territories and the office of lieutenant governor and second-in-command.

NLGA conducts an annual Business Meeting for new elects/appointees, usually hosted by a member, as an opportunity to showcase unique state-to-state resources, best practices, shared solutions, and common experiences with a goal to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of state and territorial government and the office of second-in-command. This meeting also focuses on leadership training and the unique training for the office of lieutenant governor and of succession. NLGA staff salaries are a sunk cost.
NLGA conducts an annual spring meeting, typically hosted by a member, as an opportunity to showcase unique state-by-state resources, best practices, shared solutions, and common experiences with a goal to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of government. Sessions at this meeting focus particularly on NLGA association business and future planning. At this meeting, one second-in-command is recognized for leadership in innovation. NLGA staff salaries are a sunk cost.
NLGA maintains and adds to a roster of information on seconds-in-command at www.nlga.us. NLGA conducts virtual meetings and trainings. NLGA produces an e-newsletter twice monthly, and maintains active, daily social media to the mission. NLGA answers inquiries from and collaborates with legislative staff, reporters, academics, researchers, and more. NLGA serves as a federal-state intergovernmental affairs link. NLGA salaries are a sunk cost.
NLGA awards 12 STEM scholarships a year to schools. NLGA donates STEM toys for under-resourced youth at various meeting locations. NLGA salaries are a sunk cost.
