National Parks Of Lake Superior Foundation

Our work on inclusive cultural interpretation and education also made important progress. We successfully secured support for Agaaming Aki (the land across the water) an experiential learning program involving the Grand Portage and Red Cliff Bands of Lake Superior Chippewa (Anishinaabe), Grand Portage National Monument, 1854 Treaty Authority, and NPLSF. Through the program, intertribal youth will network and build relationships and confidence through hands-on education, science-based activities, career exploration, and community connections on the Grand Portage reservation and Minong (Isle Royale National Park). In the area of public engagement, NPLSF sponsored Rendezvous Days at Grand Portage, the Lutsong Music Festival, and the opening reception for A Sea Change for Lake Superior, a new documentary. NPLSF's work to protect natural resources in our parks included active engagement in national efforts to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species through ballast water, including elevating the issue with elected officials and building awareness through the Lake Superior Podcast and other forums. We also co-sponsored the North American Moose Conference and began a scholarship program for native moose scientists to attend.
