A major division of nspe is the national institute for certification in engineering technologies (nicet). Nicet is responsible for the testing and certification of engineering technicians and technologists throughout the united states. Nicet administers examinations each year to entry-level applicants and to career technicians seeking to upgrade their certifications.

Media & communications programs: the society publishes pe magazine, which covers professional, legal, and ethical issues of concern to the engineering profession. The magazine is published 4 times per year, with a circulation of approximately 64,000 printed copies and 48,000 digital copies over the course of the year.
