Through the non-profit organization jstor, essays in neq's archive are made available to researchers via library databases and individual pay-per-view downloads. Approximately 300,000 essays are accessed each year through jstor. Neq receives a royalty payment from jstor.the editors administer the walter muir whitehill prize in early american history on behalf of the colonial society of massachusetts. Each year, about 20 essays are received, evaluated, and sent to a panel of judges. The winning entrant is published in the new england quarterly.
