Good Government Reporting New Mexico in Depth reported on the money going to state lawmakers on key issues such as an effort to reform the states alcohol policies, including contributions from lobbyists and their employers. We also provided insight into how industries fund dark money groups through a series of stories about a new dark money group operating prior to the states primary election. We continued to report on the states independent ethics commission and the progress it has made in creating a new culture of disclosure among the states public officials. And we launched a new project that will result in a new interactive money-in-politics web portal in 2024.

Indigenous Affairs and Education In a series of stories in 2024 NMID investigated the fatal police shooting of a 17-year-old Mescalero Apache boy; explored Native American voters complex feelings about the 2024 election in collaboration with NM PBS; wrote about the high rates NM college students, particularly Native Americans and Blacks, struggle to find stable housing and food; continued reporting on the crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous people; and wrote about a movement to grow the number of Indigenous doulas and midwives to address the high rate of Indigenous women dying from pregnancy-related causes.
